Throwback Thursday: Historical Romance Edition #31

Happy Thursday, everyone!  Zeee here hosting this weeks' Throwback Thursday:  Historical Romance Edition, a feature started by Buried Under Romance and Love Saves the World.

What is Throwback Thursday?

Traditionally, Throwback Thursday celebrates nostalgia, asking participants to post a personal photo or an image from their past -- usually from 5 to 10 years ago. There are a lot of book blogs that also do a book-related Throwback Thursday.

The Historical Romance Edition:

Since Tin of Love Saves the World and I are unapologetic lovers of historical romances, we've decided to focus on our beloved genre.

Here are our rules:

1. It must be posted on a Thursday.

2. It must be a historical romance novel published before October 3, 2008.

My pick for this week is Lions and Lace by Meagan McKinney, published on April 1st, 1992

Lions And Lace (Van Alen Sisters #1)
The gaslight's glow lit Alana Van Alen's golden hair. Born to luxury, she belonged with the Astors and the Vanderbilts at cotillions and soirees. But she shivered with fear and something more as she faced the handsome, ruthless Trevor Sheridan. He had bankrupted her fortune and would expose her family's scandalous secret unless she accepted his outrageous offer, his emotional blackmail ... his heart-stopping kiss.
Born Irish, brought up in the streets, Trevor "the Predator" Sheridan learned early how to get the wealth and the women he wanted. An expert at games of power, he played one that would destroy every famous family who had snubbed him. Tricking the beautiful Alana was his trump card. But he never intended to want her ... until her beauty and her resolve stole his breath away.

My Thoughts
I have read this story multiple times already and it still remains to be one of my favorites.  A classic tale about love between two different social classes, Lions and Lace tells a story of Alana Van Alen, a bankrupted society princess and Trevor Sheridan, an Irishman who rose up from the gutter to becomes one of the richest men in Knickerbocker New York.

I am still blown away by this story.  So much so that my copy is battered and bruised since I have brought it with me when I moved to the US.  I love the chemistry between Alana and Trevor.   Each interaction sizzled through the pages and I loved reading about how they fell in love with each other.

I love reading about dark heroes and Trevor is one.  Reading about his past and what drove him to be dark and brooding and finally being able to fall in love was amazing to read.

Now, head over to Tin @ Love Saves the World and Ki Pha @ Doing Some Reading for their pick of the week.

Oh. Oh. My heart still hurts over this book, in the very best way. I love the setting, love these two very imperfect people who could not be more perfect for each other. Excellent choice.

  2. Lions and Lace is
    - F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C
    - B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L
    - H.E.A.R.T.M.E.L.T.I.N.G

    Oh yeah!
No matter now many times I read it, I feel my body warming up!
    Love them-love them-love them!
Even the side characters, their romances were so cute.

Can you recommend me a hero like Trevor or a story like this?

  3. I've not read this before or heard of the author, but it seems like a fantastic book. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Ezrah!

  4. I've never heard of this one and I don't know why! It sounds like a book that I would love. I'm off to find a copy...thanks for sharing!

  5. I haven't read Meagan McKinney but this sounds great from what I'm understanding.
