1. You mentioned that Griffin is the first bad boy you've written; what challenges did you have in writing him?

Griffin was shockingly easy to write, which leads me to believe I should be writing more bad-boy heroes!  When I was doing pre-work on his character, I kept getting images of Capt. Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.  And that’s basically how I began to envision Griffin, except edgier and a bit darker, and with better hygiene and clothes.  My heroine, on the other hand, is based partly on the character of Mary Poppins.  Once I got the concept of Jack Sparrow meets Mary Poppins into the mix, it all fell into place.

About THE SEDUCTION OF MISS  AMELIA BELL
Edmund MacGregor will do anything to save Scotland from English rule-even kidnap Lady Amelia Bell for ransom. As the daughter of a duke and the chancellor's betrothed, she's the perfect pawn in this game. But from the moment he first lays eyes on his spirited captive, he can't resist stealing a kiss.

Lady Amelia's duty is to marry well, but that hasn't stopped her from fantasizing about true love. So when a sexy Scot appears in her home, she's beguiled. When he kidnaps her, she's furious. Yet as Edmund introduces her to a world of passion beyond her wildest dreams, can she leave her family behind for this handsome Highlander? And will Edmund risk the only true home he's ever known to capture the heart of this lovely lass?

About Paula Quinn
New York Times bestselling author Paula Quinn lives in New York with her three beautiful children, three over-protective chihuahuas, and a loud umbrella cockatoo. She loves to read romance and science fiction and has been writing since she was eleven.  She loves all things medieval, but it is her love for Scotland that pulls at her heartstrings.

The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell by Paula Quinn
Edmund MacGregor is a fierce Scot intent to preserve the independence of his adopted clan, by which he means to prevent the Act of Union between England and Scotland, advocated by the Duke of Queensberry.

Miss Amelia Bell, niece of the Duke of Queensberry, is going to marry the Chancellor of Scotland to help her father gain needed prestige, a duty she plans to carry out against her own wishes. Amelia is at times flirtatious, at times innocent, and with Edmund (who had faked a title for himself and came to her engagement ball) she becomes a laughing, giddy girl, thinking him a personification of a Roman god.

Little did Amelia know that she would be kidnapped by the very man with whom she scandalously danced at her engagement ball, for Edmund and his cousins planned to use her to force the hands of Queensberry and the Chancellor in order to stop the signing of the union treaty. And along the way, what complications would arise than an unexpected and unwelcomed need for each other, a blossoming, lighthearted love, and Edmund’s desire to keep Amelia forever?

From their first meeting, Amelia and Edmund were taken with each other’s physical attributes. Yet, as they come to know each other, their blazing physical attraction was only fuel for their understanding of the other’s personality and position. Edmund, despite kidnapping Amelia, dearly wished her to like him, and understand the essential free ruggedness that marked him as a Scot, without wanting to submit to English rule. He embodies honor and royalty with his clan, and willing to abandon his mission for the love of a certain beautiful lass.

Amelia, on the other hand, was a more complex character. Despite her outwardly demure and accepting demeanor, she is inwardly daring, much to the surprise of herself. She tried to hate Edmund for his kidnapping her, yet could not forget his kisses or the gentleness he showed. In the end, though, her growth as a character was not fully complete, even as she tried to nobly sacrifice herself (by means of denying her love for Edmund) to save him. I had hoped that the ultimate act of her growth would be her defiance of her uncle, of abandoning her duty and timid self for love as Edmund had done. Without that, the ending felt slightly rushed, as Edmund had, a few scant pages ago, been a hairbreadth away from possible death, and suddenly, it’s congratulations for the couple and bid farewell for Amelia and her family.

This is my first Paula Quinn book, and I enjoyed her use of historical background – Duke of Queensberry, Lord Chancellor, and Earl of Seafield were real figures who commissioned the treaty – and skillful depiction of the intense political climate of the time. In the end, as we know, the Act of Union of 1707 did occur which united Scotland and England, and it was a good thing that Edmund eventually prized love above his clansmen’s political goals, for it saved his life and captured his heart.

Blog Tour: Recklessly Royal by Nichole Chase (Interview + Giveaways)

Prizes of this tour (via Rafflecopter below):
1. Paperback copy of Recklessly Royal
2. $25 GC to Amazon/BN

RECKLESSLY ROYAL Synopsis:

Catherine has spent her life being the perfect princess. She’s kept her hands clean, her head down, and most importantly—men at arm’s length. After all, most men are after only one thing, and for Cathy there’s a lot more at stake than her bed; she has to worry about the fate of an entire nation. But at the rate she’s going, Cathy is afraid she’ll give the Virgin Queen a run for her money. She is tired of waiting for someone good enough to come along. She has a plan, and it all hinges on seducing the one man who seems utterly unimpressed by all things royal. The one man she is tempted by more than any other . . .

When David arrives at the royal wedding of his friend, the newly ordained Duchess Samantha Rousseau, he expected to feel uncomfortable and out of his element, but he wasn’t prepared to be targeted by Prince Alex’s gorgeous younger sister. With Cathy’s giant blue eyes, killer figure, and sense of humor, it won’t take long before he gives in. But when he finds out just how innocent the crown princess really is, will he play the part of knight in shining armor or the dashing rogue?

 1. What was the inspiration behind RECKLESSLY ROYAL?

Cathy was a fun character to write in SUDDENLY ROYAL and she really grabbed my attention as I was writing Sam’s story. As I thought about her, I knew that I wanted to explore how hard it would be to have one personality and role in the public versus how she would behave in private. I also wondered how she would be able to trust that people liked the real her… and if she wasn’t sure people truly liked her and weren’t using her, then how could she open up for more intimate experiences?

2. What was your favorite scene to write in the novel?

This is always a tough question, because I don’t want to give anything away. Let’s just say that there are a lot of ‘almosts and not quiets’. The tease and tension were so much fun to write.

3. If you could invite one of your characters with you on a trip around the world, who would it be and why?

Chadwick! We’d have so much fun. He is Sam’s assistant and would be a blast to travel with. Of course, I’d really love to travel with any of my characters. Or hang out with them. Or just stare at Alex, David, and Max. Yeah. I could do that. ;)

4. What is your writing schedule like?

Whenever and wherever I can! I have a four year old, so I try to write while she is in school and then sometimes late at night when everyone else is asleep. My husband is awesome, because he will send me away on the weekends so I can write uninterrupted at times.

5. When you are not writing, what do you like to do?

I love to craft, make things, and paint. And READ of course!

6. Finally, what message do you wish to convey to your readers?

To be true to yourself. To not waste time on people or things that don’t matter.

Book Blast: Dispatches From Paradise by Shelley Gitlow

Prize for the tour are as follows:
•
Shelley will be awarding an autographed copy of the book to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour.

About the book:
Author and screenwriter Shelly Gitlow makes her fiction debut in this colorful, lightning-paced, and often wildly unpredictable modern tale about sex, lies, and love.

From the very first page, DISPATCHES FROM PARADISE takes readers to the family battlefield of three generations of women living together in the sultry city of Miami -- where DD cups abound, octogenarians recite erotic poetry and an S&M Fitness class is not for the fainthearted.

Written in the distinct voices of Liz (39) who pulls the plug on her marriage and quits her job so she can re-boot her life, her over-sexed mother, Claudette (55) who’s searching for her next partner/meal ticket, and Darcy (18) Liz’s beautiful, reckless daughter who’s realizing she might also have a brain and be a lesbian, DISPATCHES FROM PARADISE explores the complex dynamics of the women’s relationships as they tear through Miami’s wild clubs and outrageous art scene, changing, growing and reconnecting on new terms.

Drawing upon her unique insights as a family therapist, author Shelly Gitlow gives readers three characters they will never forget.  Her debut novel marks the arrival of a bold brash narrative voice.

Throwback Thursday: Historical Romance Edition #22

Happy Thursday, everyone! And welcome to a new feature on Buried Under Romance and Love Saves the World.

What is Throwback Thursday?
Traditionally, Throwback Thursday celebrates nostalgia, asking participants to post a personal photo or an image from their past -- usually from 5 to 10 years ago. There are a lot of book blogs that also do a book-related Throwback Thursday.

The Historical Romance Edition:
Since Tin of Love Saves the World and I are unapologetic lovers of historical romances, we've decided to focus on our beloved genre.

Here are our rules:
1. It must be posted on a Thursday.
2. It must be a historical romance novel published before October 3, 2008.

So, the novel I'm featuring is...
When Dreams Come True
When Dreams Come True by Cathy Maxwell, first published in 1998
                                                  Goodreads | Amazon

But at first sight of this enchanting maiden, he knows he must claim her for his own. Taking her back to Penhollow Hall, he pampers her like a princess, determined to win her trust and her heart.

For Eden, awakening in an elegant bedchamber in a remote corner of Cornwall is like a perfect dream. Review: When Dreams Come True by Cathy Maxwell

When Dreams Come True

  Goodreads | Amazon
Later published by Avon
Widow Haskell and the people of Hobbles Moor gathered around to cast a love spell that will bring the perfect woman for their wonderful Cornish earl, Pierce Kirrier. And it did. In the form of Eden, a young woman rescued by Pierce after being shipwrecked on route to a harem.

Eden is a brave heroine who grew up in a brothel after being rescued from the London rookries by Madame Indrani, and taught the sensual arts to pleasure her future buyer. This was the fate she was made for, yet she wanted a better one, and in courage she escaped the ship carrying her to her buyer, and found herself in the arms of a handsome, caring man.

Pierce, the Earl of Penhallow, has avoided marriage thus far. But he did because he didn't want a miserable marriage like his mother's, nor did he want only the partial affections of his future bride. It was love he sought, and love he found.

Both characters are graced with good looks, but even when the physical attraction is between the two, Pierce nonetheless sought to do the honorable thing by Eden and never went beyond irreparable boundaries. Their love grew in each interaction, and it wasn't just infatuated beauty, but a caring that went into the heart, and an understanding of what they each sought for in a soul mate.

The first 3/4 of the book was very breezy and light hearted, filled with humorous interactions as the servants keep pushing Pierce and Eden together (as they believe Eden was given by the spell) and even the mean sentiments expressed by Lady Penhallow became sympathized when her fears were told. The rest of the book was really a test of their love, once Eden's past was revealed. The hurdle the two must face together brought out realistic emotions, and deeply felt ones until the story reaches the final and true HEA, for every marriage must have challenges.

This book is indeed a page turner, as the pages bloomed with happiness when Pierce and Eden slowly fell in love, and became more turmoiled later on. The resolution of the crisis was simple, and almost a little unbelievable, but it proved the theme of needing a marriage be a true union of souls. The secondary characters proved to be comic reliefs - especially the Willises - and added to the overall gentleness and calmness of the story.

After reading this, I bear a huge smile on my face, and I highly recommend this as an evening read by a cozy fire.

*Avon is hosting a TOUR WIDE Rafflecopter Giveaway (Paperback Copy of WHAT HAPPENS IN SCOTLAND & SUMMER IS FOR LOVERS, Pack of Mother Mae’s Chocolate Chip Scottish Shortbread Mix and Delightful Ceramic Shortbread Pan)

About the book:
To ruin a man’s life once takes a regrettable mistake.

To do so twice takes a woman like Julianne Baxter.
Eleven months ago, Julianne’s statement to the authorities wrongly implicated Patrick, the new Earl of Haversham, in his older brother’s death. The chit is as much trouble as her red hair suggests, and just as captivating. Now she has impetuously tracked him to the wilds of Scotland, insisting that he return home to face a murder charge and save his family from ruin. A clandestine wedding may be the only way to save her reputation—and his neck from the hangman’s noose.

Julianne has no objection to the match. More and more she’s convinced of Patrick’s innocence, though when it comes to igniting her passions, the man is all too guilty. And if they can only clear his name, a marriage made in haste could bring about the most extraordinary pleasure…
