Interview & Giveaway: Between the Devil and Ian Eversea by Julie Anne Long

Please join me in welcoming best-selling author Julie Anne Long, for her upcoming release, Between the Devil and Ian Eversea

*Avon is hosting a TOUR WIDE Rafflecopter Commenter Giveaway for A Print Copy of IT HAPPENED ONE MIDNIGHT, Book Eight in the Pennyroyal Green Series

About the book:
She might look like an angel...

The moment orphaned American heiress Titania “Tansy” Danforth arrives on English shores she cuts a swath through Sussex, enslaving hearts and stealing beaux. She knows she's destined for a spectacular titled marriage—but the only man who fascinates her couldn't be more infamous...or less interested.

...but it takes a devil to know one...

A hardened veteran of war, inveterate rogue Ian Eversea keeps women enthralled, his heart guarded and his options open: why should he succumb to the shackles of marriage when devastating good looks and Eversea charm make seduction so easy?

...and Heaven has never been hotter.

When Ian is forced to call her on her game, he never dreams the unmasked Tansy—vulnerable, brave, achingly sensual—will tempt him beyond endurance. And fight as he will, this notorious bachelor who stood down enemies on a battlefield might finally surrender his heart...and be brought to his knees by love.

1. Where do you find inspiration for your books?
Between the sofa cushions! Just kidding. Inspiration can strike at anytime, anywhere, for any reason! It might be in a shred of overheard conversation on the street, or in the color of the eyes of the guy who just handed me my chai latte, or in the way the sun feels on the back of my neck. And you can nurture it, too, the way you might force a bulb to grow. Sit with an idea, and see if it starts to reveal more of its parts to you, unfurl into a full-blown story, if you will.

2. Among your Pennyroyal Green series, who is truly your favorite character, male and female?
I honestly don't have favorites!! I have a wonderful time writing all of them, truly, and I'm fond of all of them, even people like Isaiah Redmond. From a hero perspective, I confess I still have  a soft spot for Adam Sylvaine, the hot vicar, the good guy with bottled up volcanic passions, of A NOTORIOUS COUNTESS CONFESSES.

3. If you had to pick a side, would you rather be in the Eversea family, or the Redmond family?
I think everyone can agree that Isaiah Redmond isn't, er, the most cuddly of fathers. Imagine having dinner every night with him! Not that the Eversea household is without its tensions. But I'd probably fit in better at the Eversea household. A more loving sort of chaos. But I love all of them, of course, in different ways for different reasons. :)

4. How many books are planned for the Pennyroyal Green series?
It depends on whether we count novellas! I have a few of those planned. Excluding those, probably approximately 11.

5. What are your favorite scenes in Between the Devil and Ian Eversea?
Through the first part of the story,  tension is building between Ian and Tansy, and I love the scene where he both rescues her and confronts her on her behavior. So brutally truthful and crackling and it highlights the chemistry between them. And I love a particular scene on a balcony, where Tansy is tryin to find a certain constellation, and Ian begins to realize how much more to her there is, and how similar, in very surprising ways, they are.

6. Do you think Ian has reformed himself as a rogue, or will?
I don't want to give away any spoilers, but once Ian falls in love, I have a hunch he'll forget why he ever wanted to be a rogue. A sort of rogue amnesia, if you will. Still, those impulses die hard...;)

7. What do you want readers to get the most out of your books?
I want them to live the stories vicariously. I want them to laugh, cry, cheer and, when appropriate, rage at the characters. I want them to feel so utterly immersed in the world of Pennyroyal Green that when they lift their heads from the books they're surprised to find themselves in the 21st century. I want them to lose sleep reading and forget to cook dinner. ;) I want the stories to linger in readers' hearts and minds long after they've read the last page.

8. Whose book is coming out next?
That would be Lavay's. He's a Prince of the House of Bourbon, and we met him in I KISSED AN EARL, and we first heard his name blurted by a gypsy girl in LIKE NO OTHER LOVER. Many, many readers requested a book for Lavay, and so far it's turning out to be intense, emotional, and quite funny.

9. Fans of the series have been anticipating Olivia and Lyon's story since early on,...when will we get to read their story?
Soon(ish) -- probably the full-length book after next!

The sky was just taking on a maidenly blush. She watched as the rising sun was gilding mundane things one by one, as if allotting each of them a turn at glory. First  a tall, neat shrubbery, then a white stone bench, then a fountain, then a man—
She sucked in her breath so quickly she nearly choked.
            A bare man.
Bare from the waist up, anyway.
He was standing on the little balcony next to hers, just feet away.
She ducked back into her room and dragged the curtain over her face, leaving just her eyes exposed, like a harem girl, and leaned forward for a better look. She could only see his back: A glorious burnished expanse of shoulders, a lovely trench of sorts along his spine, dividing two ridges of hard muscle, all of that narrowing into a taut waist.
Suddenly he thrust his arms up into the air, arched backward as though he'd been struck my lightning, and made a sort of roaring sound, like a pagan god calling down the morning. Though she doubted whether a god would sport fluffy black hair in his armpits.
He promptly disappeared back into his room, just as though he'd been a cuckoo popping out of a clock to announce the time.
            His roar still echoed faintly.
All in all, not an inauspicious start to a day.
[Mary: Thanks for the lovely interview, Julie! I adore your Pennyroyal Green series SO much. ^_^]
