About the Book:
Book two in the Wicked Husbands series.

Abandoned by her husband on their wedding night, Maggie, the Marchioness of Sandhurst, longs for a raging passion to free her from her lonely life. A devastatingly handsome stranger at a masque ball promises just the sort of distraction she craves. But after a night of scorching lovemaking, she wakes to find him gone.

Simon, the Marquis of Sandhurst, is horrified to discover the masked siren he bedded is his wife, a woman he vowed to never touch. He shouldn’t want Maggie, but can’t resist her now that she’s been in his arms.

As the truth unravels, husband and wife are estranged no longer, spending their days and nights exploring the desire burning hot between them. But when Simon’s past comes back to haunt them both, their newfound happiness could be forever dashed.

A Romantica® historical erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

Review:
The heart is a Pandora's Box that fears being opened.

At once the most capricious and eternal of things, it only brings pain to Maggie, whose loneliness is equally matched by her American wealth. Her husband, the Marquess of Sandhurst, had mercenarily courted and married her for her money, then promptly abandoned her in his estate while he went about his affair with a married countess, whom he claims to love.

Fate is a curious conductor of mischief.

When Maggie finally gains the courage to attend a scandalous party to experience life, the handsome, mysterious stranger to whom she becomes attracted just happened to be her neglectful, unloving husband, Simon. But is he really unloving?

Blindness can be cured.

Simon was nursing a bruised pride from his lover returning to her husband, and having had a glimpse of his enchanting wife through her mask (literally and figuratively), he is determined to give his marriage another try. His passion and gentleness astound Maggie, just as he saw the intelligence, peace, and spirit that makes his American bride every bit a marchioness as there is. She alone gave him the courage to confront his painful past, and connected with him on a level far beyond physical.

Surprises come in many forms.

Just as wonderful memories continue to be created between Simon and Maggie, their blissful days came to be tested in myriad ways. And this is what I truly love about this book -- the way in which Simon questioned himself, reflected upon his own feelings, and made a choice that was genuine to both his character and the changes in his life. In accompaniment to that, his willingness to admit his mistakes and beg forgiveness from Maggie were not only a sign of his complexity, but of proving that love is a wonderfully, unique entity that is given not freely, for it comes with the burden of a whole spectrum of visceral emotions. And that, was likely the theme of this book.

Prior to reading this, I have read no other by this author. Her eloquent writing and characterization won me over in this book, and I will definitely watch out for her future books, as there is a secondary character in this book whose story I would dearly like to read.

Exclusive Excerpt:
She pushed at his shoulders. “We cannot.”

He halted his efforts at whisking away her bodice, but his fingers didn’t stray from the buttons. “Why?” His breathing was ragged, harsh. His voice was laden with frustration and desire.

“Because you don’t like me,” she forced herself to point out, “and I do not like you.”

He raised a brow, looking down at her as if he were a god who had just been told he was mortal after all. “What has liking to do with it? We’re husband and wife. I want you and I know you want me, Maggie. I can taste it in your kiss.”

She steeled herself against his potent persuasion. “Of course I’m attracted to you, or rather, to the man I thought you were. The problem is that now you are once again you, not him.”

He stared at her. “Damn it, I haven’t a bloody inkling what you’re prattling about.”

“What I feel for you is not real,” she explained. “It’s meant for the mystery man I met last night.”

“Goddamn it, I’m that man.” He frowned, appearing perplexed by her logic.

“No,” she corrected gently, still silently willing herself not to pull him to her for another kiss. Just one more, her evil body cajoled. One more kiss, caress. One more night. “You’re the man who is in love with another. You’re the man who has treated me as if I were no more important than a dusty book in your library. You’re the man who abandoned me.”
