Blog Tour: A Perfect Secret by Donna Hatch (INTERVIEW)

Genre: Historical Romance

Welcome to my stop of the blog tour for A Perfect Secret by Donna Hatch, hosted by Irresistible Reads Book Tour!

About the book:
APerfectSecret-cover-art
Publication Date: November, 2013
Genre: Historical Romance
Desperate to protect her father from trial and death, Genevieve breaks off her engagement with Christian Amesbury and marries a blackmailer. After a year of marriage, she flees her husband’s violent domination only to have fate bring her back to Christian. Just when she thinks she’s started a new life of safety and solitude, her husband tracks her down, stalks her, and threatens everyone she loves.
Still brokenhearted over Genevieve’s betrayal a year ago, Christian can’t believe she’s come back into his life–and worse, that she’s done it on the anniversary of his brother’s death, a death that haunts him. Though tempted to throw her back into the river where he found her, he can’t leave her at the mercy of the terrifying man she married.
When her husband torments Genevieve and puts his family in danger, Christian will do anything to protect those he loves…anything except give Genevieve another chance to break his heart
.
Now,  I was able to do a fun interview with Donna Hatch:
1. You've had a long-held passion for writing, what made you want to write historical romance?
I've had a long-term love affair with historical, beginning as a child with Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Frances Hodgson-Burnett's A Secret Garden and A Little Princess. I wanted to write historicals, but all the research intimidated me so I put it off. The story floating nagging me to write it finally nagged me enough that I broke down and researched it enough to decide when and where to set it enough to write the first draft. At first I researched begrudgingly--as a necessary evil. But now I'm hooked and I have grown into a total history nerd.

2. From where do you get inspiration for your stories?
It's different for every story. Sometimes it's a scene that comes into my head that I build a story around. Once, a song inspired me. Sometimes it comes from movies or other books--often a result of me wondering about a secondary character and what his story is, or "what if" aspects of a story. Once it even happened with me thinking how differently I'd do it if I had written it.

3. Do you ever base your characters on real life people (in some aspects)?
No, not really. The characters basically introduce themselves to me and lead the story while I try to get out of the way and let them do their thing. One time, I used the name of a boss I didn't like for the name of a bad guy and got a sadistic sense of pleasure when he was defeated and met his untimely demise. Mwahaha.

4. What are some of the perks of being a romance writer? ;-)
Seeing my "baby" go to print is always a huge rush. The royalty checks are kinda fun, too. But the best part is when I get fan mail from people telling me they liked my books. That makes it all worth it. Twice, someone in public recognized me as the author of books they'd read. That was seriously cool.

5. Out of all the characters you've written, who would you like to befriend the most?
Probably Genevieve, the heroine of my newest book, A Perfect Secret. She is very generous with her love and will do anything for a friend. Plus she could use a friend.
Thanks for replying to my questions, Donna!  I'm giggling at the part about your boss.             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  4. Thanks for sharing. The book looks interesting. I'm with the 'not into adultery' group. Finishing things before other things get started is always a good idea.
